Classic Car Enthusiasts Brave the Elements to Embark on a Memorable Adventure

Under a picturesque rainbow that arched across the sky, the much-anticipated Cape Tour Classic 2023 kicked off its exhilarating journey. Despite a gloomy weather forecast, the classic car event attracted participants eager to experience the thrill of driving vintage automobiles through scenic landscapes. With 16 registered cars, the event promised a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a touch of elegance.

Check-In and Breakfast at De Brasserie in Strand

The event began at the idyllic beach of De Brasserie in Strand. The morning's weather showed a glimmer of luck, as participants managed to avoid the anticipated rain. After completing the check-in process and receiving their roadbooks and rally plates, the participants were treated to a delightful breakfast at the renowned restaurant, "De Brasserie." The restaurant, typically open for lunch and dinner, opened its doors exclusively for the event, offering a culinary experience worth recommending to anyone visiting the area.

During the brief but essential pre-tour briefing, the event organisers provided valuable insights on reading the meticulously crafted roadbook by Colin from Historic Adventures. The roadbook, a crucial companion for participants, guided them through the intricate and captivating routes. Additionally, an exciting contest was introduced, consisting of a series of questions related to the tour's locations and surrounding areas. The contest added an element of friendly competition, adding to the overall excitement of the event.

Breathtaking Scenery and Unforeseen Surprises

As the event progressed, participants were fortunate to witness breathtaking scenery and encounter unexpected surprises. The weather gods smiled upon the convoy as they crossed the captivating Bain's Kloof Pass, where the heavy rain created enchanting waterfalls. Miraculously, a ray of sunshine appeared just as the convoy reached the pass's high section, offering a moment of respite and allowing everyone to appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.

A heartwarming surprise awaited the participants at the top of Bain's Kloof Pass – a well-deserved glass of Sherry, thoughtfully arranged to keep them warm amidst the rain.

Majestic Almenkerk Wine Estate and Indulgent Lunch

The journey continued through beautiful roads, leading the participants to the majestic Almenkerk Wine Estate. Unfortunately, heavy rain greeted their arrival, but the participants ingeniously parked their cars as close to the entrance as possible to minimize exposure to the elements. The exclusive opening of the Almenkerk Wine Estate solely for the event added a touch of grandeur to the occasion.

Inside the wine estate, elegantly dressed tables adorned the middle of the wine barrels, creating a romantic setting for the participants' lunch. The culinary delights were prepared by both an Indonesian chef and a Belgian chef, resulting in a tantalizing fusion of flavors. From the exquisite starters to the lemongrass-infused Indonesian dish, the meal concluded with a traditional Belgian waffle, leaving the participants fully satiated and appreciative of the diverse culinary experience.

Prize Giving Ceremony and Winners

Before indulging the Belgian speciality, the eagerly anticipated price giving ceremony took place. Alongside the contest winners, awards were presented for the most beautiful car and the most friendly team. Taking home the overall victory were Adrian Velaers and Ennrich Blaauw, driving a turquoise BMW Z3, closely followed by Yves Roels in his weather-adapted Jeep Wrangler.

Notably, the accolades for the best cars were awarded to a meticulously maintained 1956 Beetle and a stunning 1972 Audi 100ls with the driver and copilot impressively dressed in a brownish 70's style that perfectly complemented the vintage charm of their vehicle highlighting the participants' attention to detail and commitment to embracing the nostalgic spirit of the era.
